Laura Slattery
"Upon learning, at a much too early age that I had not been born an Indian Princess or a Desert Nomad I sought to create a world in which I could be anything... queen or flower or pirate. Writing is what I must do or my world turns gray, I gasp for breath and all my joy is lost."
Laura Slattery is a romantic at her happily-ever-after loving heart. She has a novel in progress and is fully aware that finishing it will most certainly help with the success of finding an interested publisher. She loves the art of the short story and some of hers do tend to take dark, mysterious turns that even she is not always sure about. But she offers that it is her poetry that seems to weep from her soul, small offerings that are frequently kept hidden deep in her journals, although she is not sure if it is to protect herself or her sometimes fragile poems.
Laura is actively involved in the writing scene of her community, the Inland Empire area of Southern California. In addition to previous and continuing volunteer stints as Treasurer, Web Mistress and Journal Editor, she is the current (2006-07) President of the Inland Empire branch of the California Writers Club (angelfire.com/amiga/iecwc/). All of these roles allow her to nurture and encourage other writers as they find their way to the craft of writing that she so loves. She has also hosted and facilitated The Occasional Big Bear Writers Retreat that offers an intimate weekend getaway to committed writers, providing both guidance and peace as they work to rediscover their inspiration.
